With Darken Rahl defeated, Richard and Kahlan head back to the Mud People to be married. As they wait for their wedding day to approach, they discover three Sisters of Light are pursuing Richard, intending to take him back to the Old World to be trained as a Wizard. Additionally, unbeknownst to Richard and Kahlan, the veil has been torn and the Stone of Tears has entered the world. According to prophecy, the only person who has a chance at closing the veil is the one bonded to the blade, the one born true.

There are a few sections of the book that are annoyingly redundant. As if the same concept or sentence is repeated 3-4 times, slightly differently, over a couple of pages or even paragraphs. By no means am I a grammar nazi, but that, in addition to the numerous typos, was distracting enough to take away from the experience at times. I imagine it was just lazy editing, which is unfortunate.Because this book is touching at the very least, and can change the way you look at life at best. Sure, it's a series about swords and magic, but I truly believe that it could have any other theme with the same sets of circumstances and have the same effect. There are some situations in the book that had me sitting back for the better part of an hour, mulling things over in my head or comparing them to my own life. I hear this takes a dark turn to self righteousness past book 5 or so, but I'll just have to see. If that's the case, I don't mind putting the series down and just enjoying what I've read up to this point; it's that good.
If I had a complaint, it would be the sheer amount of rape content in this book. Not that it was overly disturbing or graphic, he made the point without making it unreadable. But then he did it again. And again. And again. To the point where I started feeling bad for something I wouldn't ever do or think of doing; made to feel like crap just because I'm a man. We get more than enough of that with today's society, I could have done without all of it in this book. Or at least some redeeming qualities of the good men in the book brought out, instead of it being so seemingly one sided (besides Richard, who it seems can do no wrong in any part of his life).
He did an excellent job tying in to the first book, in my opinion. This one could basically just start off as the next chapter from the previous book's last, with no more explanation of the first story than absolutely necessary. Overall, an excellent follow-up if you've read the first one, and you should definitely pick it up!

Stone of Tears Sword of Truth Book 2 eBook Terry Goodkind Reviews
It's a very good series so far (I'm only on book 3 currently). How to put this delicately - although the book has a great story and is very well written, there is an excessive amount of detailed female violence in the first three+ books. It's an adult book sure, but it's a pointless amount and is excessively detailed on top of it. Just something to consider. It is the only thing I dislike about this series, but it's a borderline deal breaker.
I know these books have been around for some time now and I know that there is a lot to be said both positively and negatively about them, but honestly, despite being annoyed by the love story from time to time, I find myself reading page after page and book after book. All in all, it’s an engaging story with memorable characters and settings. I cry, I laugh, I feel suspense. It really is an adventure to read this series.
My love of fantasy sprung from the sword of truth series. So many twists and turns within the story. So many small hints of what is to come. Once you had read the series read it again and you will be in awe of the masterpiece that Terry has written.
Once again Goodkind has delivered a captivating story and adventure, showcasing characters that you admire and strive to become, particularly Richard Cipher (Rahl) and Kahlan Amnell. These two project such strength in character, yet you see their imperfections. You also see their growth and I sometimes ask myself how I can learn from their trials so I don't make mistakes that could cause serious consequences in my life. I appreciate Goodkind depositing two powerful principles known as Wizard's First Rule (People are vulnerable they believe what they want to believe or believe what they are afraid to be true) and Wizard's Second Rule (The best of intentions can produce the worst kinds of consequences...Our intentions are irrelevant. Consider wisely before acting).
These two principles seem self-evident and if practiced can save oneself from a lot of heartache. I look forward to book three so see what happens next in this delightful saga.
This series must be read in order. The first book is Wizard's Firs Rule. This is the second book. I can't wait to read Blood Of The Fold!
With Darken Rahl defeated and in the hands of the Keeper it seems like things are finally falling into place for Kahlan and Richard. Unfortunately magic always has a price, and violating the Wizard's Second Rule carries steep penalties. The veil between the world of the Living and the world of the Dead has been torn. Will Richard and Kahlan be able to marry in front of the Mud People before they have too start yet another epic quest? Or will their happiness be torn away by duty yet again? What is happening to Richard? Why are the spirits inciting violence and hate? Can the world be made right? Or will it all fall to the Keeper?
If you enjoyed the intensity of the first book and if you were wondering if it could be carried forward this provides a decisive YES. The horror of captivity themes of the first book are not lost as Goodkind explores other aspects of desolation and war. Like the first book, this is not for the faint of heart but if you can stomach ultra-violence and intense themes this is another extraordinary book.
